The Minnesota Historical Society has the following grant programs available to provide support for individuals, organizations and agencies for historical research, historic preservation, and projects to preserve and interpret Minnesota's history.

  • State Capital Projects Grants-in-Aid support historic preservation projects of a capital nature. These grants are available to public entities as defined by law, including county and local jurisdictions. Non-profit organizations whose primary purpose is historical preservation and/or interpretation and occupy a building owned by a public entity may also be eligible to apply.
  • State Grants-in-Aid support projects conducted by organizations and institutions that interpret and preserve Minnesota's history. Primary recipients are regional, county and local non-profit organizations whose primary purpose is historical preservation and/or interpretation.
  • Minnesota Transportation History Network Grants promote a better public understanding of the history of transportation in Minnesota. The Minnesota Transportation History Network was established in 1998 with funding assistance from the federal Transportation Efficiency Act for the 21st Century, known as TEA-21. Coordinated by the Minnesota Historical Society, the project has served to pull together myriad resources that illuminate transportation’s crucial role in building Minnesota.
  • Flood Recovery: Historic Preservation Assistance The Minnesota Historical Society’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will administer $250,000 in state funding for flood relief to assist historic properties damaged by the recent flooding in southeastern Minnesota.
