Internship Program APplication Process

Application Process

To apply, submit all application materials for Summer 2013 intern positions by Sunday, April 14, 2013 at midnight CST.

Please note that the Fall 2013 application will not be available until July 1, 2013. Do NOT apply for Fall positions using this application, as your application will be discarded.

A complete application, consisting of the online application, cover letter, resume and any required additional materials must be submitted by the April 14 deadline to be considered a candidate. Stipend applications are due along with your application. Students will be notified of the outcome of the application process the week of May 20. Accepted interns are required to attend Orientation on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 from 1:00-4:30 p.m. at the Minnesota History Center in Saint Paul, MN.

Cohort Meetings

All accepted interns are required to participate in monthly cohort meetings as a part of their internship experience, so please ensure that you do not have any conflicts with the dates below prior to making your decision to apply for an internship with us. Please note: All meetings take place at the Minnesota History Center in Saint Paul, MN from 3:30-6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Dates for Summer semester are set for:

  • Tuesday, June 25, 2013
  • Tuesday, July 9, 2013
  • Tuesday, July 30, 2013
  • Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Steps to a becoming a successful intern applicant at the MN Historical Society:

Step 1  Complete an Online Summer 2013 Application (opens in a new window) by the deadline.
Step 2  Send the following (by the deadline) as attachments in an email titled with the position and semester you are applying for, to internships@mnhs.org:

 

  • Resume
  • A cover letter detailing the position you are applying for, interest and qualifications
  • A copy of your school transcript (unofficial transcripts are accepted)
  • Any required submissions as detailed in the position description
  • Stipend application (if you are eligible and plan to apply for one)

*Please note that applications are not considered and will not be reviewed until steps 1 and 2 are complete.

Step 3  Selected applicants will be invited to a screening interview with Internship Program staff. 


Step 4  Intern supervisor will review complete application packages and decide who they will interview. If supervisors are interested, arrangements for final interviews will begin.


Step 5  Supervisor selects intern. Interns will be notified of the outcome of the selection process. 

Step 6 Interns must attend Orientation to receive materials required to embark on their internship.

Background Check

The Society is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for visitors, staff, interns and volunteers. Consequently, interns are required to pass a background check as a condition of placement.
