PROGRAM ASSISTANT

The Minnesota Historical Society (MHS), one of the nation's leading historical organizations with a major research center and extensive collections, museum exhibits and educational programs, and 18 historic sites seeks a Program Assistant to serve as liaison to facilitate communication between MHS staff and organizations outside of the Society to increase awareness and knowledge of digital collections and content.  This is a part-time, two-year position located at the History Center in St. Paul, MN.

SUMMARY OF WORK:  Major responsibilities include 1) serves as liaison with project partners; 2) develops project activities with partners; 3) drafts for partners’ review resource lists, standards, procedures and guidelines for digital content; 4) drafts reports and case studies for MHS staff, constituents and partners; 5) develops material to communicate project activities; and 6) performs related work as apparent or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in history or a related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with basic archival processes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with basic office software applications.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and to establish positive relations with other staff and organizations.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 30-40 pound boxes.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience processing government records.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota government and history.
  • General understanding of information technology issues, including electronic records, WWW tools and networked applications.

SALARY:  $15.89 hourly minimum
