SENIOR WEB DEVELOPER

The Minnesota Historical Society’s Enterprise Technology Department seeks a Senior Web Developer to analyze, develop, implement, and maintain web sites. The position exists to perform problem identification and requirements definition, evaluating the potential complexity of project.  Responsibilities include: 1) develops time estimates and project plans, ensuring the scope represents a manageable sized project; 2) provides advice and proposes options on what technologies and methodologies would work to accomplish the business need; 3) a focus on implementing open source solutions in the areas of search and content management; and 4) work on the Society’s Great Rivers Network, greatriversnetwork.org, project.This is a full-time, project position through September 2009, located at the History Center in St. Paul, MN.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems or related field OR equivalent work experience that has resulted in a level of IT understanding indistinguishable from that acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of three years of related job experience in web development; systems analysis and knowledge of software and/or hardware configurations.
  • Preferred languages include PhP, Java, C++, Ajax, JavaScript, HTML, Perl.
  • Experience with open source applications such as Linux, Apache, Drupal, Lucene, Nutch or Solr.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience with ColdFusion or Active Server Pages, and designing relational databases is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team which may include professionals from the library and archive sciences, museum design and education areas as well as other IT staff.
  • Strong planning, detail management and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to communicate and to establish positive relations with other staff and organizations.
