PROGRAM ASSOCIATE, EDUCATION OUTREACH

The Minnesota Historical Society’s Historical Programs & Education division seeks applicants for two Program Associate, Education Outreach positions.  These positions exist to promote applied history instruction for grades 6-12 by delivering student and teacher services for the statewide History Day program in Minnesota.  These two positions are full-time, project positions (each 2,088 annual hours) located at the History Center in St. Paul, MN working through June 30, 2010. Renewal dependent upon available funding and program need.

Summary of work: Responsibilities include: 1) coordinates National History Day classroom support for assigned service area; 2) facilitates History Day classroom outreach and youth mentorship programs with institutional partners; 3) assists in the coordination of regional and state National History Day events; 4) collects data and prepares program reports; and 5) assists in the development of curriculum materials and workshops for teachers that will facilitate their ability to use the National History Day program and Minnesota Historical Society educational products to address Minnesota Graduation Standards for American history, Minnesota history and Historical Skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in history or related field plus 3 years program experience or equivalent OR an advanced degree plus 2 years program experience or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in history teaching or developing history programs.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and classroom presentations.
  • Ability to nurture positive interaction among students and lead successful classroom presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills to facilitate student programs.
  • Broad general knowledge of history and historical methodology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel statewide on a regular basis.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working with schools in urban and/or rural areas.
  • Administrative or operational experience with a statewide History Day program.
  • Experience working as a member of a team.
  • Experience conducting historical research in libraries and archives.
  • Experience working with traditionally under-represented communities.

Salary:  $3,150.00 monthly minimum.
