WEB DEVELOPER
The Minnesota Historical Society's Enterprise Technology & Business Development department seeks an experienced and innovative Web Developer to design, prototype, program, test and implement database driven web applications used by a range of audiences from elementary students to museum visitors to researchers. You’ll be one of the wizards behind our award winning web sites. You will work with a variety of people across the Society’s diverse organizational functions as well as fellow web development professionals - all energized to serve our educational mission. This is a full-time, project position (2088 annual hours) located at the History Center in St. Paul, MN working through June 30, 2011. Renewal dependent upon available funding and program need.
Summary of work: Responsibilities include: 1) work with the Society’s staff to determine web site vision and requirements; 2) present and sell ideas to staff, develop and express concepts to ensure original vision of a web site is retained to its launch; 3) develop detailed prototypes and web interfaces for site applications; 4) program web sites using PHP, Drupal or other web development languages; 5) configure and manage LAMP environment; and 6) structure and execute test plans appropriate to the place in software development lifecycle.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, or equivalent work experience that has resulted in a level of web site design understanding indistinguishable from that acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree.
• Three years experience developing dynamic web applications. Preferred languages include PHP, Ajax, JavaScript, HTML, and XHTML.
• Three years experience in conceiving and designing database designs and information architecture.
• Two years experience configuring and managing a LAMP environment.
• 1+ years experience managing a Drupal environment or other open source content management system.
• Two years experience of testing along various development stages, e.g. usability, unit, system and stress.
• Self motivated. Strong planning, detail management and follow-up skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively, establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with others.
Desirable Qualifications:
• 2+ years experience developing Drupal modules.
• Programming experience using Python, Ruby on Rails or Java.
• Working knowledge of open source search technologies such as Lucene, Solr, XQuery or Whoosh.
• Working knowledge of developing applications using Adobe Flash, Actionscript, Flex or Air.
• Working knowledge of API or app development for third party products such as Google, Bing, iPhone app, Facebook widget, or browser plug-ins.
• Working knowledge of administering open source applications such as Mapserver, WordPress, Mediawiki.
• Working knowledge of ‘smart web’ data standards such as RDF-A, microformats, JSON and ATOM.
• Two years experience in building browser neutral web site interfaces that are ADA and Section 508 compliant.
• Experience in a cultural organization such as museum, library or educational institution.
Salary: $3,975.00 monthly minimum.
