DIGITAL MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST

The Minnesota Historical Society’s External Relations division seeks applicants for a Digital Marketing & Social Media Specialist to develop and implement digital marketing, social media and public relations strategies that further the Society’s brand, support the Society’s mission and annual goals, increase awareness of the Society’s programs, and drive attendance to the society’s historical sites, museums, programs and website.  This is a full-time, project position (2,088 annual hours) located at the History Center in St. Paul, MN through June 30, 2011.  Renewal dependent upon available funding and program need.

Summary of Work: Responsibilities include: 1) develop and implement annual strategy to optimize Society’s brand presence through digital consumer touch points; 2) position the Society, through social media and other digital touch points, as the state’s leader in providing a historical perspective on news and current events; 3) establish and manage the Society’s Digital Marketing Steering Committee in its mission to coordinate, prioritize, measure and create marketing tactics that support the Society’s mission, brand and priorities; 4) optimize brand visibility on all search engines through SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing); 5) work closely with marketing staff, create online advertising strategy, negotiate and implement online ad buys that complement the Society’s overall marketing strategies; 6) develop, implement and coordinate promotional strategies on www.mnhs.org working with Enterprise Technology department; 7) research and provide trend leadership on digital marketing and communication strategies; 8) manage and coordinate email marketing efforts throughout the Society; and 9) design and manage quantitative measurement programs (internet marketing and social media campaigns).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. degree in marketing, public relations or related field with five years experience developing and implementing digital marketing strategies or equivalent OR an advanced degree plus three years program experience or equivalent.
  • Functional knowledge of the types of tools web developers and designers use to produce accessible, rich multimedia, interactive applications.
  • Experience coding HTML and CSS to the degree required to modify templates for communications tools like e-newsletters.  Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
  • Proven experience in developing social media strategies that produce results.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and managing promotional  and communications strategies through blogs, email newsletters, podcasts, and channels including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, etc.
  • Functional knowledge of mobile delivery platforms for marketing.
  • Well developed skills to communicate clearly and effectively with audiences, suppliers, team members and senior management.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines, communicate effectively, develop and implement creative solutions, analyze results, and serve as collaborative team member and self-starter.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross functional teams of professionals from K-12 education, museum design, education, museum collections management, library and archive sciences and information technology.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous experience managing communications strategies for diverse communities including communities of color.
  • Experience conducting trend analysis for digital marketing strategies.
  • Experience coordinating email marketing.
  • Experience with quantitative analysis of marketing and communications campaigns.

Salary:  $3,484.00 monthly minimum.
