COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, ARTS & CULTURAL HERITAGE FUND
The Minnesota Historical Society’s External Relations division seeks applicants for a Communications Specialist Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund to communicate to the general public and select targeted audiences (including educators, legislators, students, parents of school age children and community partners) the Society’s role as an educational institution and community partner related to projects funded by the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund. This is a full-time, project position (2,088 annual hours) located at the History Center in St. Paul, MN through June 30, 2011. Renewal dependent upon available funding and program need.
Summary of Work: Responsibilities include: 1) develops, implements and manages overall communications strategy aimed at providing information to the public regarding the Society’s ACHF programs, grants, partnerships and exhibitions, focusing on building public support and demonstrating how citizens can participate, attend or benefit; 2) creates communications materials and manages publicity and public education of ACHF statewide history partnership projects; 3) manages the development and implementation of communications strategies and tactics designed to promote the creation and opening of the Our Minnesota exhibition at the History Center, and the corresponding traveling exhibition program; 4) creates, manages and implements communications strategies and tactics designed to encourage participation in and knowledge of the ACHF Grants program and ongoing grant recipients statewide; 5) creates, implements and coordinates communications plans for specific programs, in conjunction with marketing and MHS staff, designed to educate the public about, and where appropriate, encourage educators to participate in and support ACHF statewide historic programs; and 6) researches and writes a variety of materials designed to communicate ACHF projects including news releases, social media posts, newsletter articles, brochures, web site information.
Minimum Qualifications:

B.A. or equivalent in marketing, communications, public relations or related field with a minimum of five years experience working in one of these areas OR an advanced degree plus three years program experience or equivalent.

A minimum of three years experience in communications planning, issues management, public relations, marketing and serving as an organization’s spokesperson.

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.

Strong customer service orientation.

Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle many priorities.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Proven success in creating and implementing public relations and marketing programs that reach targeted audiences and meet specified goals.

Ability to make effective public presentations.

Experience in developing and managing promotional strategies through traditional public relations, advertising and marketing.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in developing and managing promotional strategies through blogs, e-mail newsletters, podcasts and social medial channels.

Experience working in partnership with community groups and educational institutions.

Experience working with statewide communications or marketing program.
Salary: $3,484.00 monthly minimum.
