Groundhog Job Shadow Day

Students in the conservation labs

Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a nationwide effort to introduce young people to the world of work by giving them an up-close look at the workplace. Last year over one million students and thousands of businesses participated nationwide.

Here at the Society, student volunteers spend a morning following staff members to learn about potential careers in museums and historical administration.

The students are able to select one individual to follow from a pool of staff members from across the institution and from every rung of the career ladder, all the way up to the Society's director. While most students are at the History Center, some students do shadow metro-area historic sites staff as well. All the students and hosts convene at the History Center for a pizza lunch and a special tour.
