Women's Organization of the Minnesota Historical Society

The Women's Organization of the Minnesota Historical Society (WOMHS) has been assisting the Society for more than 50 years through monetary gifts and volunteer time. The organization was created in 1949 through the efforts of its first president, Mrs. Frederick K. Weyerhaeuser, along with other women who wished to contribute to the Society. It was authorized by the Executive Council two years later to operate as a separate entity to promote the welfare of the Society.

In 1999, a WOMHS Endowment Fund was created. Since then, $30,000 has been donated to the Society. WOMHS members regularly assist the Society's development staff, serve as docents for tours of the Governor's Residence, and help out in a variety of other projects, including sewing curtains for historic homes, researching and cataloguing Christmas and Valentine cards, and presiding over the Alexander Ramsey House Board of Governors. The organization meets eight times yearly, September through May.

New members are welcome. For more information, contact WOMHS president Beverly Mercil at 651-647-4460.
