In conjunction with the fall 2017 broadcast of The Vietnam War, the 18-hour documentary series by filmmakers Ken Burns and Lynn Novik, Minnesota's PBS stations launched Minnesota Remembers Vietnam, an initiative to inspire Minnesotans to share stores, recognize bravery, express dissent, and foster understanding round the lasting impact of war. Minnesotans can submit their Vietnam stories to the project, which will become part of the online Minnesota Remember Vietnam Story Wall.
Join an open house story-gathering workshop at the Charles Lindbergh House and Museum where staff and volunteers will help Central Minnesota residents organize and prepare their stories for submission to the Minnesota Remembers Vietnam Story Wall. Staff and volunteers can assist participants in creating oral histories (written, audio, or video), scanning photographs, or photographing personal artifacts. All Vietnam stories are welcome, whether they are stories of military service, civilian life, families, immigrants, refugees, or activism.
Light refreshments will be served. If participants wish to take copies of their digital creations home, they should bring a memory stick.
This program is part of the series Central Minnesota Remembers Vietnam, a partnership between the Charles Lindbergh House and Museum, Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Memorial Museum, and the Minnesota Military Museum. This series is made possible through a Minnesota Humanities Center grant from the Legacy Amendment's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008.
