Picture Story: Albany milling equipment on the move

Three roller mills that grind grain in a row The Society will display these roller mills in the new Mill City Museum under construction in Minneapolis. The mills were used nearly 100 years by Albany Roller Mills Inc. in Albany, Minn.
The Albany building that housed the flour-milling equipment was built in the 1880s (shown in 1910 below right). A 70-foot grain elevator was added about 1950. Views of the Albany Roller Mills building in 1910 and 1999 with newer view having the look of a tall grain elevator
A young woman stands at a roller mill resting on a pallet preparing it for the move. The roller mills were patented in 1887 and 1890. Grain entered the first of five roller mills for the first break, then traveled in a bucket elevator to the plansifter on the second floor. Here contractor Pamela Sunnarborg prepares a roller mill for its move to the Twin Cities.
