Step 5: Go Back to Step 2 and Decide What You Want to Find Out Next

Set new priorities. Zero in on another person and event. Then ask yourslf, what information do you need?

Where was that person when the event took place? For example, "Grandma was 98 when she died in 1995. What can you find from that?"

Check the death certificate for date and place of birth, mother's maiden name, name of informant (often a relative), cause(s) of death.

Check the Soundex (index) to the 1920 Federal census to see where she was living and with whom.
