Take Action to Support the Minnesota Historical Society

2008 Legislative Session

The 2008 legislative session concluded on May 19th. During this session, the legislature acted on several items of importance to the Minnesota Historical Society.

Early in the session, the legislature passed a bonding bill to finance the construction and maintenance of state buildings and lands. This bonding bill included funding for several of the Minnesota Historical Society’s top priorities, including the Fort Snelling Revitalization plan.

The legislature also passed a bill to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot that would dedicate a portion of the state’s sales tax revenue to the outdoors and arts and humanities organizations, including the Minnesota Historical Society.

The legislature passed a bill to balance the state’s budget for the remainder of the biennium. While this bill contained cuts for several state agencies, the Minnesota Historical Society was held harmless.

These are important legislative developments for the Society, and we need to recognize the hard work of legislators who helped make this happen. You can help the Society by thanking your legislators for their hard work on behalf of history this session.
