In support of Historic Forestville's "Pennies for Preservation" fundraiser, students at Spring Valley’s Kingsland Elementary School raised $1,328.16 in less than two months. St. John's Lutheran School in Wykoff raised an additional $54.31, bringing the total to $1,382.47 in support of Historic Forestville. Outstanding work from some very young Minnesotans!

Renowned artist and 19th-century Fort Snelling commander Seth Eastman depicted the Minnesota frontier and American Indian life. See one of his paintings, "View of Mendota, 1848," now on display at the History Center. The painting – a view from Fort Snelling – portrays an American Indian family taking a panoramic look at one of Minnesota’s oldest territorial settlements.
Art curator Brian Szott says, "Determining the painting's value is
difficult as it's truly invaluable to the Society. However, at recent auctions, Eastman paintings have sold for $120,000 to more than $900,000."
Buy books about Eastman's paintings online or at Historic Fort Snelling and the History Center.

World War II touched the lives of many Minnesotans, at home and abroad. The Society has embarked on a statewide, multi-year effort to honor the memories of our state’s "Greatest Generation." Participate in a workshop and learn to:
- organize family papers, photos and other family treasures;
- create a successful oral history;
- preserve memorabilia from
the Greatest Generation (1930 - 1960).

Both the History Center in St. Paul and Mill City Museum in Minneapolis have authentic
24-ton boxcars on display inside the museum. How did movers get these railroad cars inside?
Check out the fascinating process.
