MINNESOTA HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL GRANTS - Awards
Small Grant Recipients - December 2009
Twenty-three organizations from 13 counties (map pdf) received a total of $100,577 in grants for historic and cultural projects of enduring value.
Each Historical and Cultural Grant project will preserve and enhance Minnesota’s cultural and historical resources. The grant recipients for the December 2009 deadline of Small (Fast Track) Grants of $7,000 or less are:
- Bois Forte Heritage Museum (Tower) - broaden public access to the work of reknowned Ojibwe artist Carl Gawboy through a documentary, $7,000.
- City of Taylors Falls - broaden public access through podcasts describing the historical significance of Taylor's Falls, $6,750.
- Clearwater County Historical Society (Bagley) - broaden public accessibility to primary records by adding 24 rolls of microfilmed newspapers, $673.
- Ely-Winton Historical Society (Ely) - re-interpret and expand the interpretative timeline for the introduction to the main exhibit gallery, $2,850.
- HAND in HAND Productions (Saint Paul) - document the history and culture of women serving the Saint Paul Police Department through 11 oral history interviews, $7,000
- Itasca County Historical Society (Grand Rapids) - broaden public accessibility by adding 43 standard Minnesota history titles, $1,197.
- Meeker County Historical Society (Litchfield) - update security system at the Litchfield G.A.R. Hall and the Meeker County Historical society Museum, $2,982.
- Meeker County Historical Society (Litchfield) - broaden public accessibility by adding 43 standard Minnesota history titles, $1,197.
- Menahga Area Historical Society (Menahga) - gain physical and intellectual control of 5,000 artifacts using Past Perfect software, $2,073.
- Minnesota Military Museum (Little Falls) - costume and equip seven mannequin figures for a major exhibit commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and the Dakota Conflict of 1862, $7,000.
- Minnesota Office of the Revisor of Statutes (Saint Paul) - make publically accessible "Minnesota Rules" for 1982-2007, as digital web-based content, $7,000.
- Minnesota Streetcar Museum (Minneapolis) - properly rehouse the historic photo collection of Minnesota's streetcar heritage, $3,808.
- Mower County Historical Society (Austin) - planning and training for a project that will preserve and make accessible records of Mower County's townships, $1,518.
- North Saint Paul Historical Society (North Saint Paul) - revise and update the "Walking Tour of North St. Paul" brochure, $500.
- Obsidian Arts (Minneapolis) - broaden public accessibility to "150 Year of African Artists-Minnesota Connections" through a statewide traveling exhibit, $7,000.
- Pilot Knob Preservation Association (Mendota) - research, write, produce, and distribute a web-based pocket guide to historic and culturally important Oheyawahi (Pilot Knob), $6,925.
- Pine River Fire Department (Pine River) - professionally access the condition of a 90-year-old horse drawn fir apparatus used by the Pine River Fire Department, $1,695
- Renville County Historical Society (Morton) - broaden public accessibility to primary records by adding 157 rolls of microfilmed newspapers, $4,239.
- Sacred Heart Area Historical Society (Sacred Heart) - determine necessary steps to abate water and pest infiltration to better preserve artifact collections, $5,019.
- Saint Louis County Historical Society (Duluth) - provide appropriate storage for the nationally-significant ethnographic Eastman Johnson collection, $6,500.
- University of Minnesota, Labor Education Service (Minneapolis) - assemble historical resources pertaining to the laborers who built the Minnesota State Capitol, $6,000.
- Vermillion Community College Library (Ely) - broaden public accessibility by adding 35 standard Minnesota history titles, $1,879.
- Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (Duluth) - record 15 interviews with people knowledgeable about the establishment of the sanitary district and subsequent pollution abatement, $6,540.
- White Bear Lake Area Historical Society (White Bear Lake) - broaden public accessibility to primary records by adding 119 rolls of microfilmed newspapers, $3,232.
