Eleven organizations from 30 counties (map - pdf) received a total of $261,196.

Each Historical and Cultural Grant project will preserve and enhance Minnesota’s cultural and historical resources. The grant recipients for the May 2010 deadline of Small (Fast Track) Grants of $7,000 or less are:

Afton Historical Society (Afton) - To upgrade collections catalog from paper to PastPerfect Museum Software, $6,990

Ann Bickle House (Glenwood) - To preserve the original stucco and foundation of the Ann Bickle House, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, $6,990

Armory Arts and Music Center (Duluth) - To hire a qualified and experienced historian to prepare a nomination for the Duluth Armory to the National Register of Historic Places, $7,000

Blue Earth County Historical Society (Mankato) - To add 140 rolls of microfilmed newspapers to broaden public accessibility to primary records, $3,837

City of Elk River (Elk River) - To prepare a nomination to the National Register of Historic Places for the Elk River Water Tower, $2,650

City of Faribault (Faribault) - To augment access to the Faribault Commercial Historic District through 14 new podcasts available on the city's website, $6,400

City of Mankato (Mankato) - To survey historic properties in the Mankato City Center area broadening access to local history, $7,000

City of Minnesota Lake (Minnesota Lake) - To abate water damage through proper drainage to preserve the Peter Kremer House, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, $6,999

City of Red Wing (Red Wing) - To hire a historian to prepare a nomination of Oakwood Cemetery for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, $2,000

Cokato Historical Society (Cokato) - To provide public access to the story of Smith Lake, a former settlement in Middleville Township (Wright County), $500

Cook County Historical Society (Grand Marais) - To consolidate finding aids into a single access point to help the public more quickly locate historic resources, $6,472

Dakota County Historical Society (South St. Paul) - To develop and implement visitor guides for four venues to learn about history in Dakota County, $6,600

Dodge County Historical Society (Mantorville) - To restore the front steps and add handicap accessibility to St. John's Episcopal Church, listed in the National Register of Historic Places and current home of the Dodge County Historical Society, $7,000

Friends of Linden Hill (Little Falls) - To conduct a general conservation assessment of its collections and provide a long range plan for preservation, $5,976

Golden Valley Historical Society (Golden Valley) - To properly abate asbestos and improve public safety at the Golden Valley History Museum, $7,000

Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society (Split Rock)- To provide public access to the story of the Madeira shipwreck by adding an interpretive panel to the Madeira's anchor on display at Split Rock State Park, $2,500

Hassan Area Historical Society (Rogers) - To broaden public access to historic resources through a walking and horseback riding tour of Crow-Hassan Reserve Regional Park, $3,914

Heritage Group North (Pine River) - To create a proper museum environment preparatory to locating the city museum in the Pine River Depot, $6,500

History Center of Olmsted County (Rochester) - To broaden and improve public experience and increase accessibility to Olmsted County history through a website, $6,999

Iron Range Historical Society (Gilbert) - To add 17 rolls of microfilmed newspapers to broaden public accessibility to primary records, $518

Itasca County Historical Society (Grand Rapids) - To make accessible primary records through a new microfilm reader/printer, $7,000

Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest (Minneapolis) - To document in 18 interviews the story of Jewish migration to St. Louis Park, 1950-1970, $6,998

Kanabec County Historical Society (Mora) - To add 16 rolls of microfilmed newspapers to broaden public accessibility to primary records, $432

Lac qui Parle County Historical Society (Madison) - To add 255 rolls of microfilmed newspapers to broaden public accessibility to primary records, $6,960

Mahnomen County Historical Society (Mahnomen) - To create an exhibit showing the history of two high schools in Mahnomen County, $7,000

Maritime Heritage Minnesota (St. Paul) - To digitize 6-10 log books of the USS Essex listed in the National Register of Historic Places, $6,462

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources - Division of Parks & Trails (St. Paul) - To replicate a missing 1935 historic interpretive marker at the St. Croix Boom Site National Historic Landmark, $5,500

Municipal Building Commission (Minneapolis) - To gain intellectual and physical control over historically significant municipal artifacts held in public trust, $6,982

New York Mills Public Library (New York Mills) - To add 34 standard Minnesota history titles to broaden public accessibility, $850

North Star Museum of Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting (North St. Paul) - To make accessible Boys' Life and Scouting and the American Girl and Girl Scout Leader magazines as a basis for understanding scouting history in Minnesota, $3,588

Olmsted County (Rochester) - To hire a qualified and experienced historian to prepare a Historic Structure Report that will guide future preservation projects, $6,900

Otter Tail County Historical Society (Fergus Falls) - To install lightning arrest on Phelps Mill, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, $3,559

Perham Area Public Library (Perham) - To add 33 standard Minnesota history titles to broaden public accessibility, $789

Pope County Historical Society (Glenwood ) - To hire a qualified and experienced HVAC engineer to evaluate current system preparatory to better control of the Pope County Museum environment, $6,750

Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (St. Paul) - To provide accredited training concerning historic properties for real estate agents, $3,600

Quatrefoil Library (St. Paul) - To meet archival storage guidelines through proper storage and preservation for a significant collection, $6,264

Ramsey County Law Library (St. Paul) - To conduct a conservation assessment of 36 paintings of Ramsey County District Court judges and prepare a long range preservation plan, $7,000

Redwood Falls Public Library (Redwood Falls) - To add 140 rolls of microfilmed newspapers to broaden public accessibility to primary records, $3,540

Regents of the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) - To identify and make accessible "life writings" created in languages other than English, $6,543

Rice County Historical Society (Faribault) - To add 29 standard Minnesota history titles to broaden public accessibility, $847

Rochester Somali Sports and Youth Organization (Rochester) - To document in 20 interviews the history of Somali experience in Rochester, $7,000

St. Cloud State University (St. Cloud) - To digitize and make accessible the Normalia, St. Cloud State student newspaper, 1893-1904, $5,562

St. Kilian Catholic Church (Lismore) - To harness bulges and repair bracing in historically significant art glass of St. Kilian Catholic Church, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, $7,000

Swift County Historical Society (Benson) - To document in 18 interviews the story of farming in Swift County, 1950-2000, $4,890

Talmud Torah of Minneapolis (St. Louis Park) - To document in 10 interviews the story of Holocaust survivors in Minnesota, $7,000

Truman Historical Association (Truman) - To improve public safety in acessing the Truman History Museum, $1,800

University UNITED (St. Paul) - To gather and analyze historic resources preparatory to providing public access through interpretation to a segment of University Avenue history, $7,000
