		<head>BIOGRAPHY OF TERRY DEMPSEY</head> 
		<p>Terry Dempsey, a Minnesota state representative
		  (Independent-Republican, District 23A), was elected in 1978 and resigned in
		  1992 to accept a judicial appointment. Dempsey, a New Ulm attorney, served
		  constituents in Brown, Redwood, and Cottonwood counties. He sat on the
		  Judiciary (Crime and Family Law Division), Taxes (Property Tax Division),
		  Transportation, and Ways and Means committees, and on the Legislative
		  Coordinating Commission. He was elected assistant house minority leader in 1987
		  and house minority leader in 1991.</p>

		<p>Dempsey's Papers consist of subject files and legislative files
		  documenting the areas in which he had special interest or expertise.
		  Particularly substantial are files relating to marriage dissolution laws,
		  especially regarding child support; the 1991 state financing package for
		  Northwest Airlines; legislation affecting the state's judiciary; and the work
		  of an adult entertainment task force (1988).</p>
