BIOGRAPHY OF LOUIS W. HILL, JR.

Louis W. Hill, Jr. was born in St. Paul on May 19, 1902, the son of
the president of the Great Northern Railway and the grandson of its founder,
James J. Hill. He was educated at the St. Paul Academy, Phillips Exeter
Academy, and Yale University. Prior to his election to the Minnesota House of
Representatives in 1936, he worked for the Great Northern Railway (1927-29) and
for the First National Bank of St. Paul (1930-34). He became vice president of
the Arthur Iron Mining Company (St. Paul) in 1934, serving in that capacity for
the remainder of his career, including the years he served in the legislature.
Hill represented the fortieth district continuously until his 1952 defeat. Hill
ran again in 1954, but was again defeated.
