Engagements, 1945-1986 (bulk 1948-1968)
|
| The engagements are filed chronologically by each separate event
and include correspondence, agendas and itineraries, invitations, programs,
press releases, speech texts, photographs, and news clippings. The bulk of this
material covers Stassen's 1948 and 1952 presidential campaigns, his presidency
of the University of Pennsylvania, and his tenure with the Eisenhower
Administration. The majority of the files represent Stassen's speaking
engagements and while duplication exists between the speech and engagements
series, researchers should check both series for complete coverage. Other files
provide documentation concerning Stassen's many travels and meetings of the
Mutual Security Agency and Foreign Operations Administration. |

Earl Christmas speech files:
|
| | | Files kept by Stassen's director of publicity during the 1944
and 1948 presidential campaigns. They contain annual compilations of Stassen's
major speeches and in some cases a chronological listing precedes the speech
texts. The 1938 campaign speeches are arranged by subject. |

Chronological files:
|
| | | Files contain individual speech texts. In many cases an
original draft or reading copy with notations accompanies a final printed
public release copy. Indexes to the major speeches have been placed at the
beginning of this series. These indexes were originally filed with duplicate
sets of speeches kept by Stassen's staff. The indexes are also chronological
and give the place and occasion where each speech was delivered. |
