The collection consists of alphabetical indexes and chronologically
compiled U.S. Coast Guard registers for the Great Lakes region listing
lighthouse keeper and/or assistant names and their dates of appointment, places
of birth, location of previous appointment, and in some cases, whether the
individual has a record of army or navy service.

Indexes to each of the volumes are alphabetical by surname of keeper
and/or name of lighthouse and were filmed in their entirety each time a volume
or part of a volume was filmed. The indexes will, therefore, include many names
of keepers and lighthouses that are not found on this roll of film.

Reference maps from 1889 showing the Great Lakes region lighthouses
have been filmed at the beginning of the roll.
