		<p>The Northern Pacific Railway gave the name "NP Library" to this group
		  of printed books and pamphlets, which were maintained by the office of the
		  corporate Secretary. Principal topics include:</p> 
		<p>Travel, exploration, and survey work in the states near the NP line
		  (Minnesota - Puget Sound), mostly 1840-1870s;Western transcontinental railroads
		  in general including the Central Pacific, Kansas Pacific, Union Pacific, and
		  Canadian Pacific, mostly 1850s-1870s; The Northern Pacific land grant, mostly
		  1870s-1880s; State and federal regulation of railroads including rates,
		  taxation and valuation, accounting procedures, strikes, and wages, mostly
		  1900-1920.</p> 
		<p>Industrial, commercial, and natural resources of the states and
		  municipalities along the NP line.</p>
