The records are mainly those of the Minnesota Adult Education Association (1959-1975) and the Minnesota Association for Public Continuing Adult Education (1968-1974). These merged in 1975 to form the Minnesota Association for Continuing Adult Education. Included are some records of the Minnesota Council for Adult Education (1933-1934, 1943-1959). Subjects include methods for teaching community, secondary, public and private, higher, and religious adult education. The organization was affiliated with other national groups concerned with adult education.

Correspondence, minutes, membership information, and conference programs of an organization begun in 1919 as the Minnesota State Americanization Council, primarily to meet the educational needs of immigrants. In 1930 it became the Minnesota Council for Adult Education. The organization was revived in 1951 and, in 1959, the name was changed to Minnesota Adult Education Association. That organization merged (1975) with the Minnesota Association for Continuing Adult Education to become Minnesota Association for Continuing Adult Education.
