<p>Janet Munson Deming grew up in south Minneapolis, and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Minnesota, and a master's degree in urban and regional studies from Mankato State University. Deming worked for Hennepin County Social Services as a social worker, and as a probation officer. She later was owner and president of DOR (Delivering Organizational Results), a Minneapolis-based employee-assistance firm that she founded in 1978 with psychologist Diane Olson. She was a longtime community activist and volunteer, a member of the Minnesota Women's Economic Roundtable, and a national board member of the Employee Assistance Professionals' Association. She was active in the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Minneapolis Urban League, and the United Neighborhood Centers of America.</p>

There are also papers relating to social services, feminism, and civil rights, and to organizations and functions in which Deming participated. Other material appears to be largely informational, having been collected by Deming out of personal interest. Some correspondence and files pertain to her working life, though little relates to DOR.</p></scopecontent>
