HISTORICAL NOTE

Re-imagining Community was established in 1994, an outgrowth of a concern on the part of
the World Council of Churches in the 1980s that women's concerns were not being
addressed through the religious community. The Central Committee of the World Council of
Churches designated the years 1988-1998 as an Ecumenical Decade of Churches in
Solidarity with Women. Re-imagining's mission was committed to living out and acting on
the belief in the all-inclusive love of God and the worth and dignity of every person.
The organization holds conferences and short courses called Faith Labs. They produce a
quarterly publication called Re-Imagining, each issue dedicated to a theme such as
healing, beauty, and forgiveness. The organization disbanded in 2003.
