The family papers also provide information on life and education in western New York (1840s-1850s); genealogies of the Folwell, Bainbridge, Colby, Cole, and Heywood families; Hobart College, from which Folwell was graduated (1857); travel and study in Europe (1860-1861); life in Wisconsin and Minnesota as reported by Folwell's wife Sarah and members of her family (1860s); the public health activities of Dr. Charles Hewitt, who was instrumental in establishing the Minnesota State Board of Health; a sister's education at Mount Holyoke Seminary (1860s); the 1876 national exposition at Philadelphia; frontier life at Fort Benton (1870s-1880s); the practice of medicine in Buffalo, New York (circa 1865-1895); life on a western Minnesota farm; library problems and usages in Minnesota; the Minneapolis Board of Trade; St. Barnabas Hospital in Minneapolis; and the Grand Army of the Republic.
