         <head id="a2" altrender="biography">BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE</head>
         <p>Howard M. Atkins was born in Maine in 1838 and migrated westward to Minnesota, where he
            studied law. He came to Mille Lacs County in 1856 and subsequently practiced law in
            Stearns and Sherburne Counties. He married Virginia Sinclair of Illinois in 1862. </p>

         <p>The collection consists of correspondence of Howard Atkins; his siblings Henry J.
            Atkins, Irene D. Atkins Fuller, Annie E. Atkins, and Eliza E. Atkins; and correspondence
            of other extended family members. The letters are arranged geographically by place of
            writing.</p>
