Includes information about the establishment of the company's Agricultural Development Department, for many years headed by J. W. Haw, and which apparently fell under the purview of the Northern Pacific's Traffic Department. There are also speeches by Haw on agriculture-related topics, particularly reclamation and irrigation of western lands.

Correspondents include Northern Pacific second Vice President J. M. Hannaford and Vice President-Traffic James G. Woodworth; company agriculture expert Thomas Shaw; Professor James B. Hedges of Clark University (Worcester, Mass.); J. L. Coulter, president of North Dakota Agricultural College; and George Livingston, director of the American Institute of Agriculture (Chicago).
Some of the files are from the office of Vice President-Traffic and its predecessors.
