Standardized reports submitted to the tax department of each state in which the Northern Pacific owned property. Although data categories vary somewhat over time and from state to state, the reports generally contain the following: organizational information, capital stock and funded debt data, stock and bond holdings, mileage operated within the state, miles of track operated within each school district and within each incorporated town or city, annual income and expenditure statement (system-wide and within the state), and property taxes paid in each of the states in which the company operated during the previous year.
