SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION

Two photocopied scrapbooks (1866-1993) compiled by Evelyn Wendler
Nelson documenting her family history. One scrapbook entitled "Our Olga,"
relates to the family of Nelson's mother, Olga Aberg Wendler; the other traces
the family of her father, William F. Wendler. Both scrapbooks contain
correspondence; birth, death, and baptismal certificates; genealogical charts;
biographical narratives; photographs; and newspaper clippings.

The material related to Olga Aberg Wendler documents her birth and
early life in Gtenberg, Sweden; her siblings and extended family in
Sweden; her emigration to Red Wing, Minnesota (1905) where she worked as a baby
sitter for the Aaron Bjork family; her work as a maid with the Gross family in
Duluth (1907); her marriage to William Wendler (1909); the family's homes in
Red Wing; and the lives and families of her children, Evelyn, Olive, and
William.

The papers related to William Frederick Wendler document the lives of
his father, Berthold A. Wendler, a Prussian emigrant and his mother, Katherine
Lyon, the daughter of a French immigrant. The couple were married in St.
Mary's, Pennsylvania (1866) and were early settlers of Red Wing, Minnesota. The
bulk of the scrapbook material relates to Berthold and Katherine Wendler's
seven children and their families.
