CLUB

The Cameo Social Club was founded in September of 1925 by five African
American young women who wanted to create an opportunity for "wholesome
entertainment" and social gatherings with like-minded individuals. While the
charter members were all women, the club inducted it's first male member within
the first month and the club sponsored its first ball, an "Introductory Party"
in early November of that year. Club activities throughout the years included
formal and informal social gatherings, cultural events, and charitable work.
One of the highlights of the year during the mid-1950s to the 1960s was the
annual Cotillion ball, during which the club presented a group of debutantes.
