SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION

This collection consists largely of love letters exchanged between
Merrill C. Benson and Borghild Bjorge between 1919 and 1923. The couple
eventually married and owned a family farm near Harmony, Minnesota. The love
letters represent a style of courtship correspondence from the 1920s. Topics of
the letters include weather, health, illness, family, and local events.
Borghild writes in her letters to Merrill about her career as a school teacher.
The letters are largely to Merrill from Borghild. The remainder of the
collection is related to Quentin M. Benson and his involvement in 4-H during
the 1940s.
