 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE RECORDS Naturalization Records Index (Microfilm SAM 32-I) SAM 32-I 1 1859-1954.

Microfilm copy of a personal name card index to final papers (vols. A-D, 1859-[1898?]); citizenship papers (vols. A and B, final papers, 1896-1906); and petition and record (final papers, vols. 1-8, 1907-1954).

The cards are arranged in a single alphabetical sequence by surname and given name. All the Final Papers are indexed by volume and page number. The Citizenship Papers and Petition and Record are indexed by volume and page number, petition number, or certificate of naturalization number. The cards also include the date of naturalization or the number and date of the certificate of naturalization , which serve as supplemental indexing aids.

The cards were not checked for completeness or correct alphabetical order prior to microfilming. Researchers who do not find a card for a particular individual in its proper place should search the index further and/or consult the naturalization records, many of which contain indexes.
