         <abstract label="Abstract:">Records documenting the institution's farm, which began
            operation in 1891 and closed in 1969. Of particular interest in the records are the
            details of the livestock and crops raised on the farm and the products, including milk,
            meat, and vegetables, that it supplied the institution.</abstract>

         <head id="a3">SCOPE AND CONTENTS</head>
         <p>Included are general records of farm expenditures and receipts (1950-1969), records of
            labor and repairs (1950-1969) and products (1955-1969) supplied to the institution by
            the farm, livestock records (1931-1969), slaughterhouse records (1902-1969), and herd
            register (1905-1936).</p>
         <p>The livestock records include monthly reports on the numbers of cattle, horses, and pigs
            kept at the farm (1950-1969), a dairy cow record book, with milk production and breeding
            information (1931-1936), a cattle record (1933-1936), and feed and silage and swine feed
            records (1951-1969).</p>
         <p>The slaughterhouse records detail the number of animals slaughtered, total weight,
            pounds of meat in various categories, shrinkage and related data (1902-1943,
            1950-1969).</p>
         <p>There is also a small set of newsletters (1951-1969) written by Ray Burkholder, the
            Division of Public Institutions' Institution Farms Supervisor, containing information on
            the state's farms, including the one in Fergus.</p>
