                congressional delegate, and members of the second legislative assembly (February 26,
                1851) and the signers of the Democratic and Republican versions of the state
                constitution (1857). Also five 1857 statehood documents that were exhibited at
                the 1957 Minnesota State Fair: the enabling act passed by Congress authorizing
                formation of a state constitution (February 26), territorial act providing for
                election of delegates to a constitutional convention (May 23), Joseph R. Brown's
                certificate of election as a convention delegate (June 20), Congressional act
                admitting Minnesota into the Union (December 7), and Territorial Governor Samuel
                Medary's proclamation of adoption of the state constitution (December
                22).</abstract>
