The files particularly relate to the 1954 Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act and special projects undertaken in the various districts. They include materials created under its predecessor, the Department of Drainage and Waters (1919-1931), and its successor, the Natural Resources Department (post-1971).

Materials include rosters, project descriptions, graphs and diagrams, budgets, program summaries, memoranda, photographs, correspondence, pamphlets, newspapers articles, legislative and legal documents, engineers' reports, maps (topography, aerial, boundary, blueprint), environmental assessments, and rules and regulations.
