The Diocesan offices over the years took custody of the parish registers of closed
parishes, and of other minute and account books no longer used by various churches,
and incorporated them into the official diocesan records. Parish registers include
records of baptism, confirmation, marriage, and burial. Many also contain notes on
parish history. Additional notes on content for selected volumes are given below.
Parishes for which there is substantial documentation on parish affairs and/or
parishioners are the Calvary Church (St. James), Church of St. Ansgarius
(Minneapolis), Church of the Good Shepherd (St. Paul), Christ Church (Crookston),
St. Sigfrid's Church (St. Paul), St. Paul's Church (Belle Creek), St. Peter's Church
(Shakopee), Trinity Church (Stockton), Trinity Parish (Duluth), Emmanuel Church
(Eagle Bend), and All Saints Church (Minneapolis).

The volume was originally used as a diary, 1856-1857, by Edward R. Welles
prior to his becoming rector of Christ Church in 1858 (he left the
church in 1874 when he was elected to the episcopate of Wisconsin). The
diary entries (30 pages) were made while Welles was pursuing theological
studies at Hobart College, Geneva, N.Y. Included are a description of a
trip up the Mississippi River from New Orleans to St. Louis, thence to
Geneva by way of Detroit and Buffalo; Welles' daily schedule of studies;
a description of a lecture series sponsored by the Young Men's
Association of Waterloo, N.Y., Welles' home; and answers to a series of
questions from the divinity examination (1835) of Dublin University,
written as a review exercise.

The remainder of the volume contains an alphabetical list of contributors
to the church (1873-1874), and lists of communicants (with attendance
records?) (1886-1890).
