		<head id="a2" altrender="biography">BIOGRAPHY OF SEWELL G. RANDALL</head> 
		<p>Sewell Randall was born around 1838 in Illinois and later moved with
		  his family to a farm in Sargent Township, Rice County, Minnesota. On October
		  14, 1861 he was mustered into Company I of the Fourth Minnesota Infantry
		  Regiment as a private. He served in Altoona and Huntsville (Ala.), Kingston
		  (Ga.), and Nashville and Chattanooga (Tenn.). He was promoted to corporal and
		  reenlisted on January 1, 1864. Randall died on October 6, 1864 of wounds
		  received at Altoona.</p>

		<p>Randall, a native of Faribault (Rice County, Minn.) comments, in very
		  brief entries, on picket duty, guard duty, drilling, the weather, letters from
		  family and friends, foraging, and other activities. He also records a furlough
		  home (March 5-April 24) and his visits to relatives in the southern Minnesota
		  towns of Warsaw, Medford, Wells, Wasioja, and Owatonna. Accompanying the diary
		  are biographical notes compiled by the cataloger.</p>
