When a work deals with a region of Minnesota larger a county, or when it deals with a natural feature that is included in more than two counties, assign the appropriate code from the following list for the region or feature.
The Library of Congress classification schedule assigns the code 4142 to natural features, even if they are located in a single county. The Minnesota Historical Society will assign the code for the county in 4143 for a natural feature (lake, park, etc.) that is located in a single county. If the natural feature is located in two counties, assign the codes for both counties in 4143. If the natural feature is located in three or more counties, assign the code for the geographic region.
Assign codes for geographic regions based upon the subject headings or subdivisions used in the record.
