An Evening of Twin Cities Funk and Soul on Feb. 8

Funk & Soul RevueThe Minnesota Historical Society partners with Secret Stash records and Icehouse to present a rare evening of Twin Cities funk and soul featuring original performers from the recently released Secret Stash Records compilation "Twin Cities Funk & Soul ('64-'79)."

The Twin Cities enjoyed a rich R&B scene during the 60s and 70s, featuring soul singers like Wanda Davis, R&B and funk bands like Willie and the Bumblebees and soulful groups like the Valdons. Hosted at venues around the Twin Cities, many now defunct, they created a rich musical genre that came to be recognized as the “Minneapolis Sound” when interpreted most famously by Prince.

Secret Stash Records is an independent record label owned and operated in Minneapolis, MN. Dérobé Dance Band, a new group from the label will be opening the night.

This event is being held at Icehouse, 2528 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55404. For more information visit http://www.minnesotahistorycenter.org/funk.
