Celebrate History at the Minnesota State Capitol on Presidents Day

History Matters Day Activities Include Free Kids' Craft, Tours, Info Fair and More!

History fans of all ages are invited to show support at History Matters Day at the Capitol on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. History programs in Minnesota educate our children, boost local economies and preserve our state’s unique culture—all for less than the cost of a movie ticket, per citizen, per year.

Activities include:

  • Free Capitol tours
  • Free craft activity for kids
  • View items from the Minnesota Historical Society's collections
  • Meet with Legislators to advocate for history
  • Minnesota Historical Society and Friends Information Fair

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. free parking will be available at the Minnesota History Center with a shuttle provided to the Capitol. Friends of history who can't attend the rally, can still show that "History Matters" by sending a message to their Legislators at www.mnhs.org/historymatters.

The Minnesota History Center will also be open Presidents Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Society’s calendar of events is posted online at www.mnhs.org/calendar. The website also has information about all of the Society’s programs, museums and historic sites.

The Minnesota Historical Society is a non-profit educational and cultural institution established in 1849. The Society collects, preserves and tells the story of Minnesota’s past through museum exhibits, libraries and collections, historic sites, educational programs and book publishing. Using the power of history to transform lives, the Society preserves our past, shares our state’s stories and connects people with history.

The Minnesota Historical Society is supported in part by its Premier Partners: Xcel Energy and Explore Minnesota Tourism.
