History Center Holiday Happenings and Kwanzaa Family Day in December

Bring the whole family to see the exhibits and enjoy special events at the Minnesota History Center in December. Visit the History Center's exhibits, store, café and History Hijinx craft area. On Dec. 28, join the celebration of African American family, community and culture on Kwanzaa Family Day. The History Center will be open with special holiday hours on Monday, Dec. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Time: Noon to 4 p.m.
Cost: $11 adults, $9 seniors and college students, $6 children ages 6-17; free for children age 5 and under and MNHS members.

TreesThe family will have a blast this year with a holiday vacation visit to the History Center.

Explore exhibits like Then Now Wow, designed with kids in mind. This exhibit includes a trip through time in a Twin Cities streetcar, a descent into an Iron Range mine, a Soo Line box car, an 1870s sod house, a journey through the chutes of a grain elevator and much more. From noon to 4 p.m. parents can visit the American Spirits exhibit for live performances of Minnesota's own Prohibition stories.

Bring the kids to the History Hijinx craft area where they can decorate a
3-D cardboard tree using markers, construction paper, beads and buttons. This project is free with admission.

Then visit the History Center for special holiday hours on Monday, Dec. 30. Explore the exhibit galleries, stores and cafe from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

kwanzaa On Saturday, Dec. 28 from noon to 4 p.m. bring the family to the History Center's annual Kwanzaa Family Day, a celebration of African American family, community and culture.

The day's festivities include African dance and drums, fashion, crafts, food demonstrations, art activities and storytelling. The seven-day Kwanzaa holiday is a recognition and reinforcement of seven basic values of African culture, know as the Seven Principles: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
