MEDIA ALERT: Historic Fun at the Great Minnesota Get-Together
WHAT: This year, the Minnesota Historical Society is excited to bring even more to Minnesota State Fair visitors!
- Fairgoers can stop by the Minnesota Historical Society booth in the Grandstand every day of the fair. Grab a free yoyo while supplies last.
- The new History & Heritage Center in the West End Market showcases the significant events, intriguing stories and inspiring traditions that have laid the foundation for the present-day Great Minnesota Get-Together. MNHS staff worked closely with fair staff on this exhibit.
- Debut of two new stops on the Minnesota State Fair History Walking Tour developed by MNHS and the Minnesota State Fair Foundation: Media at the Fair and Transportation and the Streetcar Arch. Fairgoers can use their own phones to dial 1-877-411-4123 and hear fun facts, fair sounds and personal memories related to a dozen historically significant spots at the fair.
- The History Hound (above!) will appear in the fair parade at 2 p.m. every day except Aug. 31, which is Minnesota History Day at the Fair!
WHERE: The MNHS booth is located in the northwest quadrant of the lower level of the Grandstand. The State Fair Heritage and History Center is located at West End Market. History Day at the Fair is in Carousel Park.
WHEN: The Grandstand and State Fair History and Heritage Center are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The History Hound will appear in the parade at 2 p.m. every day except Aug. 31. History Day at the Fair at Carousel Park is from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
COST: Free with fair admission.
The Minnesota State Fair History Walking Tour is presented by the Minnesota State Fair Foundation and the Minnesota Historical Society. These programs are made possible by the Legacy Amendment's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008.
