NEW HOURS AT MINNESOTA HISTORICAL SOCIETY LIBRARY MEANS IMPROVED SERVICE

Hours at the Society’s Gale Family Library to change effective Dec. 1

Hours are changing at the Minnesota Historical Society's Gale Family Library to better serve the needs of patrons. The new hours, effective Dec. 1, 2012, are:

  • Tuesday, noon to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Closed Sundays and Mondays
  • In addition, hours will no longer change between summer and the rest of the year.

The library recently surveyed students, family historians, teachers, scholars, attorneys and others who visit or want to use the library's collections. When asked about access to the library, the most common response was for longer days and morning hours.

In order to keep staffing costs from rising sharply to meet this change, the library will close on Sunday, the day with the smallest number of visitors.

The library has also added two Saturdays (Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends) to be more consistent with History Center hours and the researchers expressed desires.

New patrons or returning patrons who want to learn more about the Society's collections and how to access materials can attend a free class "I'm New Here: Introducing the Library." This class is offered every Saturday year round. Reservations are recommended; call 651-259-3300 or register online at www.mnhs.org/library/classes.

The Minnesota Historical Society's Gale Gamily Library is located in the History Center at 345 Kellogg Blvd. W. in St. Paul. Auxiliary aids and services are available with notice of five working days (call 651-259-3300).
