Xcel Energy is New Premier Partner for Minnesota Historical Society

The Minnesota Historical Society announced today that Xcel Energy will sponsor the Society as a Premier Partner throughout 2011.

As a Premier Partner, Xcel Energy will help to support the Society's network of 26 historic sites and museums across the state, and will sponsor the popular "Nine Nights of Music" summer concert series held at the Minnesota History Center.

"The Society’s mission of serving the public and educating families aligns with our effort to help customers use energy more wisely, by showing them ways to save energy and money to better manage their bills." said Crystal Manik, Xcel Energy Market Manager.  "The Minnesota Historical Society’s programs, sites and museums are the perfect venue for this ongoing education."

Xcel Energy's collaboration with the Minnesota Historical Society began with their successful sponsorship of an exhibition on Benjamin Franklin that visited the History Center in 2010. "Xcel Energy’s partnership with the Minnesota Historical Society is a clear example of their commitment to the community," said Michael J. Fox, the Society's director. "Their support plays an important role in enabling us to bring excellent programs to the people of Minnesota."

Xcel Energy takes great pride in supporting the communities it serves through employee volunteerism, Foundation grants and event support. Xcel Energy is headquartered in Minneapolis and serves 3.4 million electricity customers and 1.9 million natural gas customers in eight Midwestern and Western states.

The Minnesota Historical Society is a non-profit educational and cultural institution established in 1849. Its essence is to illuminate the past as a way to shed light on the future. The Society collects, preserves and tells the story of Minnesota’s past through museum exhibits, libraries and collections, historic sites, educational programs and book publishing. For more information about the Minnesota Historical Society visit the Society’s website at www.mnhs.org.

Xcel Energy and Explore Minnesota Tourism both support the Minnesota Historical Society, in part, as 2011 Premier Partners.
