Holidays Will Soon Be Here at MNHS Historic Sites

This November and December MNHS historic sites around the state will offer holiday events for the whole family.

James J. Hill House has two brand-new ways to experience the holidays: Christmas Traditions Guided House Tours, a tour examining holidays on Summit Avenue in the 1890s, and Christmas Saturdays for Families, where families with young children can explore this historic house while gathering items for a Victorian cornucopia. Families can also whip up some delicious treats in December during a new holiday baking workshop at Mill City Museum.

Over the winter holidays, the Minnesota History Center is excited to welcome back The 1968 Exhibit after an acclaimed nationwide tour. The exhibit opens Dec. 23, and the History Center will mark the 50th anniversary of this pivotal year in American history throughout 2018. Starting Nov. 11, visitors to the History Center can also check out a free 1968-themed holiday photo op in the lobby, complete with aluminum tree, and share their selfies using #1968exhibit.

On Sunday, Nov. 26, visitors can kick off their holiday shopping during Museum Store Sunday at Minnesota History CenterMill City Museum and Split Rock Lighthouse. These three museum stores will offer 10 percent off purchases of $25 or more, as well as $5 off any level of new or gift MNHS membership. Plus, members receive 20 percent off at MNHS museum stores and online during Member Double Discount Days Dec. 7-10.
