ART BECOMES HISTORY

Two groups of papers documenting Minnesota art projects have recently been added to the Society's collections.

Armstrong Art Shanty 2006

  1. The Art Shanty Projects collection includes print materials; photographs and project proposals that document the winter art exhibition founded by artists Peter Haakon Thompson and David Pitman in 2004. The exhibit is held each year on the frozen surface of Medicine Lake in Plymouth.
  2. Rifle Sport was an artist-run alternative art gallery located in downtown Minneapolis from 1985-1988. The collection of gallery papers includes colorful posters, photographs, ephemera and reviews.

The Society collects materials like these to fulfill its mission to document Minnesota history, including the history of the arts and artists.
