In Her Own Right: Minnesota's First Generation of Women Artists is a unique collaboration between the Minnesota Historical Society and the Minnesota Museum of American Art (MMAA) in St. Paul. On display at MMAA through Oct. 28, the exhibition showcases more than 75 works by five renowned artists, including Clara Mairs (pictured).
UNCOVERING HISTORY

When Society conservators go about restoring works, often discoveries are made in the process. Follow along as a sofa from 1856 is reupholstered, with surprising results.

New for the 2007 Moving Pictures film festival, selected entrants will be included in a television program to air September 29th on TPT in conjunction with the new Ken Burns WWII documentary, The War; a seven-part series premiering September 23rd. Interested filmmakers should register today as special submission deadlines apply.
The Share Your Story web project has collected more than 500 stories. Readership has reached 92,000.
New additions include Three Years In The Army, 1943-1945, by Society volunteer John Donlan, and Different, Harry J. Herder, Jr.'s account of working on a river boat as a teenager in Red Wing.
HISTORY DAY STUDENTS TAKE TOP HONORS

National History Day was held June 10-14 in College Park, Md. 2,000 students from across the United States competed.
Fridley High School ninth-graders Kiehlor Mack and Mikhail Mack took first place for their senior group exhibit Lives vs. Livelihoods: The Reserve Mining Controversy.
Iris Fricke, Hilary Geerdes, Kelsey Geerdes, Callie Sacarelos and Georgia Simonson, senior-division students from Christ’s Household of Faith School in St. Paul, earned second place for their performance on the United Service Organizations titled USO: A Home Away From Home.
