Irish Fest


MILL CITY IRISH FEST:
TUNES, TALES & ALE
March 6, 2008: 6 to 11 P.M.

Kick off the St. Patrick’s Day season with an evening of Irish food, drink and entertainment:

  • Dance to the music of Van Morrison performed by
    St. Dominic’s Trio.
  • Enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres from the Local and cocktails and Irish beers from the cash bar from 6 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Hear tales of Ireland and the Irish in Minnesota with Kieran Folliard, owner of Kieran’s Irish Pub, The Local and The Liffey.
  • Learn to bake Irish soda bread with Mary Healy of Saint Honore Gluten-Free Bakery.
  • Explore the museum gallery, open until 9 p.m.

Norling Portrait
Suburban World: The Norling Photos, a collection of images capturing the light and dark sides of 1950s Bloomington, on view April 1 to June 15.
Opening reception, April 1, 5 to 8 p.m. Free.

Whipple Exhibit
Selections from the Bishop Whipple Collection of American Indian Art, including rarely seen items, many from Ojibwe and Dakota people with accompanying documentation, on view through April 13.

Lake Street
Right on Lake Street, a whimsical, funky trip through the heart and history of Minneapolis' most vibrant neighborhood. Closes March 9.

Twin Cities playwrights mine the Society's collections (including this really spectacular tie!) for inspiration. The result is 12 moving, funny, dark and surprising monologues about what it means to be Minnesotan. March 25 at the Minnesota History Center.

Placeography

The Minnesota Historical Society developed Placeography.org, as a collaborative web site where anyone can create and edit pages devoted to preserving the history of any physical place in Minnesota: department stores, homes, farms, public lands and more. You can add stories, personal memories and pictures.

Omeka
The Center for History and New Media and the Minnesota Historical Society announce the public beta release of Omeka, the free and open-source software that provides museums, historical societies, libraries and individuals with an easy-to-use platform for publishing collections and creating attractive, standards-based, interoperable online exhibits.
