Minnesota Association of Museums August Sampler

The next Minnesota Association of Museums sampler will be held at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska, on Thursday, August 17, 2006 from 4:45 to 6:00 p.m. No gate fee charged from 4:30 on- please come after this time for free admission.  Directions.  The Arboretum restaurant is open until 8 p.m.  To RSVP, e-mail or call Nina Clark at 612-870-3374.

Minnesota Museum of Mining receives grant of paint to rehabilitate mining equipment

See article in Hibbing Tribune about the Minnesota Museum of Mining’s use of a grant from the Valspar Foundation and Northland Foundation to repaint historic mining machinery.

The September/October, 2006 issue of the Minnesota History Interpreter  and the fall, 2006 issue of Minnesota Preservation Planner are available online.

George Catlin visits Nicollet County Historical Society

David Geister portrayed noted 19th-century painter George Catlin recently at the Nicollet County Historical Society in St. Peter.  The program was reported in a story in the Mankato Free Press.

IMLS Museums for America Grants

Museums for America is the largest museum grant program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).  Grants, ranging from $5,000 to $150,0000, strengthen a museum's ability to serve the public more effectively by supporting high-priority activities that advance the institution's mission and strategic goals.  The deadline for applications is November 15, 2006.  For more information, see guidelines or contact IMLS program staff at 202-653-4789.
